Social Media Marketing
Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing refers to extensive use of social networking
sites like Facebook, Instagram and websites for promotion of different products
and services. With the advent of social networking sites this became more popular.
Most of the sites have built in data analytics tools which help them in
tracking the reach and effectiveness of their advertisements. It provides an
appropriate platform to target selective customers unlike the TV or newspaper
ads where you don’t have any control on the audience you want to reach.
Platforms:
1. Social Networking Websites
Social networking websites provides a platform to connect
different people from different parts of the world and make an online
community. Information sharing has become so quick that good or bad news can spread
throughout the world in a matter of seconds. This helps in gazing the
effectiveness of an online marketing campaign quickly instead of waiting for
days to get the final analysis.
Social networking sites like Facebook have already crossed 2
billion marks. This opened a plethora of
opportunity for the Digital marketers to exploit and make use of. With
advancement of data analytics, marketers can get the real time information
about the users and can direct the appropriate advertisements on their page.
This increases the conversion rate and benefits both to the client and platform
owners.
2. Mobile
Internet has reached to the half of the homes throughout the
world mostly because of mobile phones. Smart phones have made it possible to
access Internet from wherever you are and keep you connected. With this they
can search and see any information on the go. Marketing can be done based on
their location and the need they have to make them more effective.
Strategic Approach
There can be two types of approaches Passive and Active.
1. Passive approach
Blogs, community contents and different forums can be used
for passive approach. They help in getting customer feedback and marketing
through word of mouth. Different companies pay the bloggers to write their
experience and spread the news. Feedback from real time users are the best way
to attract the potential customers and convert them. Downside of this is that
bad word of mouth can also affect the business of the concerned company as we
have seen in the case of Dell. An unsatisfied customer wrote his blog about the
poor service of the Dell customer care and ultimately made them pay for it.
2. Active Approach
Social media can be used for direct marketing to the
specific audience by recognizing their specific need. Data analytics provide
data about each user and their lifestyles. This insight is used by the
advertisers to direct relative advertisements only. Companies are benefited by
paying only for their target customers unlike TV and Newspaper Ads.
Social Media platforms like Facebook, Google
plus, Whats-app, YouTube, Instagram, Yelp, Foursquare, LinkedIn are growing very
fast and with them increasing the reach of Social Media Marketing with much more
to come.
